Starosel Thracian temple and Hissar spa resort
In August 2000, a sensational discovery took place near the village of Starosel, in central Bulgaria. Archaeologists uncovered an enormous temple/tomb that they believe belonged to a Thracian ruler, perhaps even Sitalces I, who may have been the first King of a united Thrace Empire. This tomb or temple dates back to between the fourth and fifth centuries BC and has turned out to be by far the biggest ever unearthed. It's now referred to as the "Starosel" Thracian Cult Complex since numerous graves were located surrounding the main structure. During our tour today, you will firstly see the Temple close to Starosel; afterwards, travel onwards towards Hisar - with approximately seven thousand inhabitants - a tiny holiday destination renowned throughout Europe due to its thermal waters. Situated just outside the foothills of the Central Mountain Range at about 1,138 feet above sea level, it enjoys quite a temperate weather pattern along with more than twenty different types of natural spring water sources making it popular amongst both local Bulgarians and overseas visitors alike. As one of only three internationally recognized health spas within all of Bulgaria, Hisar is equally infamous for being home to some ancient roman relics too! You can find these remnants scattered across various locations such as old government offices, a miniature theatre venue, former military quarters used during times past when Romans occupied here, original church bases considered to date right back thousands of years ago plus probably most notably preserved fortresses built under their rule still standing tall amidst time itself... And don't forget seeing 'the Camel Gate', named after having collapsed down the center once upon a long forgotten era but resembling twin camel figures looking directly opposite each other until restoration work began earlier last century. After arriving in Hisar, enjoy taking leisurely strolls through lush greenery filled park areas surrounded by bubbling warm baths fed by underground minerals together with beautiful fountain displays while marveling at remaining pieces left behind by those distant civilisations whose legacy continues echoing loudly till present day....
