Private Excursion to Battambang

Battambang is Cambodia’s second largest city and the center of a fertile agricultural region often referred to as the "Rice Bowl" of Cambodia. While it would be possible to spend several nights exploring all that Battambang has to offer, our full-day tour focuses on its most notable sights. As you drive around the city, you can still see remnants of the French colonial period reflected in the facades of some buildings; indeed, many old homes are undergoing much needed renovations. Despite facing potential closure, the iconic Bamboo Train continues to operate—a unique mode of transportation offering scenic rides through verdant landscapes just outside Battambang. In case of encounters between trains, the train carrying less weight disassembles temporarily to allow passage. Lunch will be provided along with time to relax during the warmest part of the day. On route, there will also be stops including visits to an orange orchard prior to arriving at the spectacular Banan Temple perched atop a hillside overlooking breathtaking vistas of rural Cambodian scenery. Then, we will also check out the local market on the way there and take some photos of the local way of life in this less crowded village and learn about their daily activities on this largest freshwater Lake in Southeast Asia. We will see crocodile farms well-stocked with crocodiles big and small. Stopover the sticky rice store and look around the dried fish displays overwhelming in aroma. After pickup, you will travel through picturesque countryside and rural villages approximately 60km in the north-east direction to the jungle clad temple of Beng Mealea. Once in a complete state of disrepair resembling a giant jigsaw puzzle, Beng Mealea has recently been made more accessible with the addition of a wooden walkway throughout the structure assuring safe access and slight elevation, thus a better view. This mid 12th century temple features mixture of Buddhism and Hinduism attributes and is particularly mesmerising in the wet season. In the afternoon, we visit the stilted community of Kompong Khleang located on the northern edge of the Tonle Sap lake approximately 55km east of Siem Reap town. Accessible in both dry and wet season, visitors to Kompong Khleang during the dry season are universally awestruck by the forest of stilted houses rising up to 10 meters in the air. When the monsoon comes the waters rise up to one or two meters of the buildings. This is a permanent community with subsistence fishing as the main source of livelihood. One Day Trekking in the forest on Kulen mountain

Phnom Kulen is considered a holy mountain in Cambodia, of special religious significance to Hindus and Buddhists who come to the mountain in pilgrimage. It also has a major symbolic importance for Cambodians as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire, for it was at Phnom Kulen that King Jayavarma II proclaimed independence from Java in 804 CE. Jayavarman II initiated the cult of the king, a linga cult, in what is dated as 804 CE and declaring his independence from Java. In the early 7th century, Sambor Prei Kuk was the capital of the Kingdom of Chenla, a pre-Angkorian Khmer kingdom that was known in Chinese chronicles as “Zhēnlà.” Constructed by King Isanavarman I, the complex was an important religious center devoted to the worship of Shiva. Boasting more than 100 temples, mostly made of brick, the temple ruins are located in three main groups, scattered across the semi-cleared jungle. Explore the serene temples, including the Prasat Yeay Peau, atmospherically smothered by ancient trees, and the extravagant lion carvings of the Prasat Tao. Private Half Day Trip to Genocidal Museum & Killing Field

We go to pick up you at your hotel and transfer to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former high school that the Khmer Rouge turned into a centre for interrogation, torture and death. Today it is a museum of torture and serves to remind visitors of the terrible atrocities that came to pass in Cambodia. 17,000 people passed through the gates of this prison and only seven lived to tell the tale. Then, we go to visit Choeung Ek Genocidal Center. We travel out of town to the Killing Fields of Choeng Ek. Prisoners from Tuol Sleng followed this same route to their fate. An old Chinese cemetery, Choeng Ek was turned into an extermination camp for political prisoners. The remains of 8985 people were exhumed from mass graves and are kept in a memorial stupa here. Despite the horrors of the past, it is a peaceful place to go and a tranquil spot to reflect on the tragic events that engulfed Cambodia and its people. Return to hotel and drop off. We pick up you at the lobby of your hotel. Then, transfer to visit Royal Palace, home to the Cambodian royal family and a symbol of the nation. We begin amid the beautiful royal gardens, landscaped with tropical plants and studded with gleaming spires.
