The largest lake in Centro-america, Nicaragua Lake or well known like the only lake with fresh water sharks, is just 10 mins driving from the center of Granada. Once we are in the small port we take a motor boat (18 people capacity with life jackets) and we go around the Little Islets where we will show all their secrets like great bird life, Spanish fortress with two floors where we have great views over the lake, Granada city and Mombacho Volcano. The ride uphill only is an adventure by itself, the incredible steepness of the volcano guarantees a spectacular 4x4 ride. You will see coffee plantations and later on the cloud forest. The views are spectacular from here.When you arrive at the top at 1,200 mts the temperature will have dropped significantly and the humidity will be high. It’s always windy, so be sure to bring an extra sweater. At the top there is a tourist center which houses maps, photos, models, souvenirs, and more interesting material. There is also a cafeteria where you can get a small meal and drinks, use the bathroom. The Mombacho volcano has four craters. All of the craters are covered with cloud forest and you can walk around one of the craters, or hike around several craters. Besides lots of different trees and plants that thrive because of the cloud forests humidity you can also observe howler and white face monkeys, as well as snakes, deer, reptiles, birds, and insects. Las Isletas are a group of 365 small islands scattered around a peninsula. The islands are of volcanic origin, they were formed thousands of years ago and are mostly covered with vegetation and rich with bird life.The kayak makes it possible to go into shallow water and get close to the flora and fauna, especially the bird life. You do not have the noise from the motor boats so you can enjoy peace and quietness on the water. You will also encounter locals fishing between the islands, looking for their daily lunch. Experience the thrill of boarding down the slope of Cerro Negro Volcano, one of Central America's most active volcanoes. The hike up the volcano is about one hour. We explore the main crater and walk the rim up to the highest point. The panoramic views of the pacific are breathtaking, you can see the colonial city of Leon, pacific ocean and volcanic chain. After the instructions and putting on the safety equipment we slide down the volcano. The speed is controlled by using your feet as breaks. The faster you go, the more extremer the activity. If you do not want to do the volcano boarding you may also walk down the volcano.
