Les Jardins de Callunes

Les Jardins de Callunes is a landscaped botanical garden located in the Vosges Mountains in eastern France. Covering about 4 hectares, the garden is situated in a peaceful natural environment of forests and meadows at an altitude of approximately 550-600 meters above sea level. Created between 1994 and 1996 by landscape designer Jacques Couturieux, the site was transformed from a former sandstone quarry into a beautiful botanical park. Today, it features around ten themed areas connected by grassy and stone paths, including a pine grove, heather gardens, perennial beds, rock gardens, and a small mountain lake with a cascading stream. The gardens are especially renowned for their impressive collection of heathers, with over 250 varieties, as well as rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas, Japanese maples, and many other shrubs and perennials that bloom throughout the seasons. Combining natural woodlands with thoughtfully designed plantings, the park provides a relaxing walking experience, complete with benches, picnic areas, and gentle trails suited to all visitors.
